"Be the change you wish to see in the world", a quote by Mahatma Ghandi, has always been one of my favourites ever since I was a teenager. That simple yet profound principle has guided me always, and I come back to it again and again. It's not so easy to embody! If I wish to see peace in the world, it is for me to become peaceful within myself. What does that really mean? You are ultimately the only thing you can change. For me, it means we need to stop berating ourselves. We need to stop making ourselves and others wrong, bad, not enough. We need to stop blaming, shaming, judging, making ourselves better than, or lesser than. We need to stop holding on to past resentments and find a way to forgive and transform. We need to stop being at war within our own minds. The list could go on.... "How do I begin to get my heart and head around what I see happening in the world?" I have people ask me. From an expanded view, we are all multi-dimensional souls having a human experience. We've had different life experiences, we were born in to different families, cultures and to various geographical points. We have come here as a soul to learn, grow and experience. Everyone is doing the best they can with the knowledge and level of consciousness that they possess. This is a challenging concept when dealing with harsh and violent situations. I can only come back to myself, I am the only thing I can change, in the way I perceive, the thoughts and words I choose, how I act towards my family, friends, neighbours and to strangers. Love is what heals. This helps me to make sense of this life, the absolute beauty and the utter devastation. Everyone is doing the best they can with the level of consciousness they possess. By coming back to myself, I am choosing to add a positive impact in the best way that I can. I choose to focus on unity and transforming what is still unhealed within me.
Last weekend I went to a storytelling event that told how the Goddess Kali came in to being. She is the Hindu Goddess of creation and destruction. It was a timely blessing to be reminded that we need to feel our anger, rage and sadness, to honour and feel everything that comes up, so we can release it and move through it, back in to a state of love and compassion. It's important that we don't suppress our feelings, but at the same time, to not send them out in to the world. Express but don't send. Release and let go. If we hold on, we push it down and end up resenting and blaming, which only then serves to be poison that starts to contaminate our own body and being. If we don't face and transform ourselves, we are adding that unhealed trauma to the collective conscious, which perpetuates separation, differences and hate. What we focus on we add energy to. This week, I have been reflecting on peace, and how I can love myself more. Where I still need to release trauma from my system. Going deep in to gratitude for everything in my life. I have taken part in several large group meditations focusing on peace. Reflecting on my time living in Israel in my 20's, tuning in to the land that I feel deep in my soul. Remembering the beautiful people, both Israeli and Palestinian, that I met. I've been dreaming a world of peace, a golden age of unity and harmony. The new moon is in Libra is tomorrow and we have a solar eclipse, my intentions are to be more conscious of any thoughts that serve to separate me and create division, to bring more balance in to my life. I intend to reflect more on being the change I wish to see in our precious world. What will you be intending? May you have a peace filled month. With love and blessings,
